You'd never heard of poutine? And you didn't know the mini donuts were called Tim bits? Hehe that's kinda funny.

Jory, thanks for responding.

Where would GE get the incentive to build more advanced microwaves if they're the only company selling them? And how expensive would they be?

ooo... another documentary... thanks for the link... I'll watch it tomorrow...

I understand competition brings down costs...(not to sound corny)but at what cost... unless it is to develope new technologies, then the cost is either in inferior product, worse working conditions, or some other shortcoming...

I see your point "how much effort does a company have to put toward getting your business if they’re the only company in town?"... but that's my frustration... I don't want companies to have to fight to get my business... that's wasted time and money that could be better used elsewhere...

I can't understand how you're worried about lead in toys, yet frequently put electronics in a microwave.

Also, were you being sarcastic when you said:

Think of all the redundant tasks being performed simply because of the rivalries. While the companies search for efficiency in their own operation to outperform one another, think of how much more efficient it would be if there was just one grocery store.

Competition between rival companies brings down costs. How much effort does a company have to put toward getting your business if they're the only company in town? They can set prices as high as they want, because people have no freedom of choice.

I'd recommend watching "Sick in America". It's an ABC News documentary by John Stossel, and it's approximately 41 minutes:

Just one small suggestion: Get one of those old-school reels of film and hang it on your wall, preferably with a bit of the film hanging down off the side. It doesn't even have to be film, it can just be one of those reel-to-reel audio tapes (I can get one of those from my grandfather for you).

Hey dude found your blog from TMS on youtube. I'm sorry to hear about your being skimmed. Happened to me a few years back. I lost about $10,000 (I kid you not, they cleaned $3000 out of my account, and maxxed my $5000-capped Visa. My bank graciously increased my limit - automatically, without my authorization - to $7000, and they maxxed it again). They called me when my checking account was overdrawn when I tried to buy gas for my car... man was that a scene...

Anyways, long story short, the bank (Community Savings, a private bank in western Canada) ruled my evidence of fraud as insufficient (including a signed letter and testimony from my employer, saying I could not possibly have been in Mexico on a certain day), and I found myself in a very deep hole. I only recently was able to finally crawl out.

I swear if I ever find out who did that, well, lets just say... use your imagination...
